Pre-Operative Instructions:

  1. Stop taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others) and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), as well as herbal supplements associated with increased bleeding (Fish Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin E, Garlic supplements). It's best not to use these medications and supplements for two weeks before and after surgery. Take only medications approved or prescribed by your surgeon.
  2. Avoid exposing your skin to excess sunlight for one week before surgery and two to three months after surgery.
  3. Arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery. Plan to have someone stay with you for the first night after surgery.
  4. On the day of surgery you can have light breakfast. Avoid caffeinated drinks.
  5. Use Dial soap to wash your face and body on the day of procedure.
  6. Wear comfortable soft clothes and shoes.
  7. You can bring an iPod with earphones to listen to music during your procedure.


 

Post-Operative Instructions:

  1. Don't lift anything weighing more than 20 pounds (9 kilograms).
  2. Avoid swimming.
  3. Avoid strenuous activities, such as aerobics and jogging as well as cleaning the house.
  4. Sleep with your head raised higher than your chest.
  5. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience shortness of breath, chest pains, an unusual heart rate, pain in your calves, bleeding or visual disturbance.
  6. Scars from the incisions may take six months or longer to fade. Take care to protect your skin from too much sun exposure during this time.
